What to do when the day just isn't going your way…
I feel like I have days like this all the time. You set out the day with certain intentions and different things you want to accomplish and then, all of a sudden for one reason or another they just don’t pan out. Sometimes, it is completely my fault and other days it’s just the opposite.
Today, today I’m having one of those days. Today it was my fault. I had a plan to get up early and get a lot of school work done, head to the store, go to a gym class and then head to class tonight. Instead, I slept too much accidentally, made lunch and binge watched YouTube, was rushing to my gym class but had to stop to get gas (so no, I didn’t end up going) and got lost on the way driving to campus—the struggles of living in an unfamiliar area. Now, I’m here writing to you, in my car while its literally pouring rain outside, eating pistachios—because yes, I did at least make it to the store. The stress and frustration in my body has been building gradually all day because I had these goals—
SO now I’m at stress level 10/10, I’m disappointed in myself, and I’m thinking to myself “Well, what do I do now?” How do I salvage the day, that was so good up until about two hours ago? So here are the options I gave to myself:
1. You could fight through all of it and go to the gym. You won’t do the class you signed up for but you could work out on your own.
2. You could do some yoga after you get home from class…and take some time to rethink your stress and perspective.
Today, I opted for number 2. I’ve decided to notice and actively choose what I need to do for my body. Even though I haven’t had the most strenuous day. I need a moment to collect myself, fight the almost automatic, negative thoughts popping up in order to take on the rest of my day with hope and positivity. Some days, cracking out a workout is just what I need to get through. Today, some yoga tonight will do just fine. So, I hope the next time you are having a day like this you take a moment for yourself and decide what YOU NEED. On those days don’t look for anyone else’s approval or advice. Just decide what you need to move forward with your day feel positive and motivated.
