My 5 Minute Challenge
So, its been a while since since I've published a post. I've gotten too wrapped up in the idea that my blog from the start has to be perfection. That every post has to have zero grammar or spelling errors, beautifully staged photos, and entice every reader to the fullest. I've had drafts of posts sitting on my page waiting for me to find the time to edit, re-read, and perfect. WELL today I'm saying it's enough. I've had a busy busy schedule and attempting to juggle this, school, working two jobs has proven to be a feat. So, recently to fight this battle to find time to pretty much do anything I've come up with this, the 5 minute challenge. So here it is:
Yes, we are all busy. The second, the minute, you tell yourself that the sooner you are going to make an excuse to not do something. When my mind switches to this, I take 5 minutes. 5 minutes, to do whatever task I thought I didn't have time to do.
This morning I took 5 minutes to tidy my room, 5 minutes to just open my books to work on project I've been procrastinating on, and right now 5 minutes to write this post. What I've come to notice is that I can handle 5 minutes of just about anything.
So, what are you going to do for 5 minutes today?
Tattoos
On Facebook, I recently read a post from a young woman who just turned 18 and got her first tattoo. She was posting on a group I belong to for advice, because her mother was outwardly against and negative about her tattoo. I offered the best advice that I could, and reassured her that in time the negativity would subside.
I have two tattoos, both of which I've acquired over the last two years of my life and I can tell you they for sure won't be my last. I too have experienced some backlash and negativity from extended family towards my tattoos. It hurt to hear such negativity towards them but over time I've learned to brush the comments off. The most important thing I've learned is this: NO ONE else but you has to like your tattoos. They are an extremely personal choice.
You can choose to make a statement with your tattoo or not. You can choose create something beautiful based on a person or story in your life. You can also choose to get a tattoo that doesn't have a huge amount of significance or meaning. Don't feel pressured to justify why you got what you did. I've also come to realize that a tattoo doesn't necessarily need to have meaning when you get it but can gain significance and meaning after you get it.
I personally love dainty, feminine, and subtle tattoo's. So far, music has inspired my choices which was honestly unintentional but not completely unsurprising considering what a huge role music has played and continues to play in my life.
"That's life." ~ Frank Sinatra
This is by far my favorite of my two tattoos. I'm obsessed with the placement, on the outside of my left arm and I love script. If you are familiar with this song by Frank Sinatra, you would know this song is all about life, the ups and downs, picking yourself up, and learning how to continue living even when things are hard. It was a song I discovered on one of my favorite shows Smashed. It's always resonated with me. I've come to appreciate this tattoo more and more the longer I've had it. In moments where I'm feeling down it has really served as a reminder that everything will be okay. Life is a cycle of ups and downs, it's okay to feel down, and it will get better. It's a physical reminder on my body to never give up. I've found it impeccably inspiring and powerful.
G clef
This was my very first tattoo. I'm still absolutely happy with this, the placement. It's so simple which I absolutely adore. For me personally, music has been one of the core elements of my life and it's made me who I am today. So, to have a music right on my ribs, apart of my breath everyday, really pays tribute to music for impact it has had one my life.
Future tattoos have yet to be decided on. Maybe just maybe I'll continue the music theme, and maybe I won't. One thing I do know, is that I'd love my next tattoo to be done by an artist in Brighton, England (who's instagram is covered with dainty, beautiful tattoos) who you can find on Instagram: geehawkestattoo. Everyone should absolutely check her art out. I'm hoping to potentially get one as a graduate school graduation gift in a few years, you have to set goals, right?
